There are days when the rut of routine is deep. I wonder at how to break free of the doldrums. So much time is spent within the walls of my home and office, I begin to think that a change is needed. A change of color might do the trick.
Painting is an exercise in patience. It requires me to be methodical with the application and aware of my surroundings.
When I apply that first wet roller of paint, I feel energized. I commit to the change, and know that I must carry through with it to the end.
Halfway through the project, I grow weary of the work. What I have completed looks great, but the work left to be done feels wearisome. I push aside any unconstructive thoughts and push forward. I focus on completing the task.
When the work is done, I feel great. It is amazing how much a coat of paint on the walls can change the appearance of each room!
I perceive my surroundings as new, even though these are the same walls I have always known.
Today, I would like to examine what other smalls changes I can make that might help to refresh my perspective. Maybe I can be the refreshing change in someone else’s life.
Self-Reflection Questions:
1. What other ways can I renew my perspective on things?
2. How else does the act of painting benefit me?
3. What do I need to accomplish before undertaking perspective-shifting activities?
